What is MeRT?
Our Technology, MeRT (Magnetic eResonance Therapy), identifies & nurtures where the brain has difficulty communicating.
MeRT is a more sophisticated and tailored form of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) that is both gentle and drug-free. It has been proven to show some amazing results.
TriCare is an insurance plan issued by the United States Defense Health Agency offered to active military personnel, veterans, and their families. The equipment used in TMS is FDA-cleared to treat Depression, and in 2016, TriCare approved coverage for TMS therapy for Depression.

HOW IT WORKS
Our MeRT Process
It all begins with a quick assessment of your brainwave pattern behaviour. From there personalized neuromodulation treatments are delivered through gentle magnetic stimulation using an FDA cleared TMS device.
STEP 1
Brainwave Recording
We conduct an eyes-closed 10 minute quantitative electroencephalogram (q-EEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG) tests that measure brain wave frequencies, heart rate and brain-heart coherence.
Our scientific and clinical teams analyze the results to better understand your brain state.
STEP 2
Clinician Consultation
We use a patented approach with your neurophysiological data to develop a customized treatment plan that aims to encourage healthy brain communication.
All MeRT treatment parameters are approved by a licensed neurosurgeon or physician.
STEP 3
MeRT Treatments
While sitting comfortably, a trained technician will position the magnetic coil on your head. This coil will deliver your individualized treatment protocol to the targeted region of the brain.
The technician applies stimulation for 6-8 seconds per minute.
A typical appointment is 45 minutes, 30 minutes of which involve stimulation.
Meet our Doctor
Oluseyi Awodele, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Awodele is a residency-trained and board-certified Occupational Medicine physician. Furthermore, he has over seven years of medical expertise in Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Aviation & Aerospace Medicine, and Preventive Medicine. He has also served as a U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon. Dr. Awodele is the Medical Director of the Braincare Performance Center - Carlsbad.
Dr. Awodele earned his undergraduate degree in Physiology & Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut, with a focus on Neuro-Physiology.
During this time at medical school, he participated in Traumatic Brain Injury research at Harvard Medical Institute and Walter Reed National Military Naval Medical Center. Specifically, he worked with soldiers returning from the Afghanistan and Iraq war fronts, using advanced methods of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). And in doing so, he identified biomarkers of brain biochemistry that could potentially distinguish between those soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and those suffering from a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

ABOUT TRICARE INSURANCE
TRICARE Coverage for Depression Treatment
TRICARE coverage will only apply if you are experiencing Depression as your primary diagnosis, and you must have tried previous treatments, such as medications or therapies, that were unsuccessful.
See below for a list of requirements to qualify for TRICARE covered treatment:
- Have TRICARE insurance
- Failed other medications
- DO NOT have any of the contraindications listed below
Absolute contraindications for cortical MeRT treatment
Pacemaker, Defibrillator, Vagal Nerve Stimulator, VP Shunt/ Magnetic intracranial shunts, Deep Brain Stimulator, Epidural Cortical stimulator, Steel shunts/stents, Cranial metal fragments (i.e. shrapnel, excluding titanium), Cochlear implant, Aneurysm clips, coils, pipelines flow diversion, Pregnant or breastfeeding, Primary brain cancer / metastatic legions in brain (unless palliative care), Magnetic dental implants, Implanted cardio-verter defibrillators (ICD), Ocular implants, suicide attempts.
Relative Contraindications
Relative contraindications require closer protocol attention and may or may not disqualify someone from receiving cortical MeRT treatment, depending on the doctor’s discretion and the person’s individual condition. These include: History of Seizure or seizure disorder, Titanium shunts/stents, Spinal Cord Stimulator, Hearing aids, Ferrous cortical implants, Magnetic ink tattoo, Bipolar Disorder Type I/II, Baha Implant, suicide ideation.
